Below are the websites owned, or that were owned in the past, by conservative “think tank” Heartland Institute. According to their website, the Heartland Institute is:
“a national nonprofit research and education organization, tax exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, headquartered in Chicago, and founded in 1984. It is not affiliated with any political party, business, or foundation.
Heartland’s mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems. Such solutions include parental choice in education, choice and personal responsibility in health care, market-based approaches to environmental protection, privatization of public services, and deregulation in areas where property rights and markets do a better job than government bureaucracies.”
In the list of websites, notice there’s a site called brendandemelle.org, Brendan Demelle is the editor of DeSmogBlog.com who pissed off the Heartland Institute by publishing some of their internal documents (check it out here)Â so the institute bought a website in Mr Demelle’s name as retaliation. They also created websites in the name of Peter Gleick, the individual who leaked the documents.
The website brendandemelle.org redirects to another Heartland website called FakeGate.org which supplies disinformation about Climate Change. It also has a list called the FakeGate Gang consisting of websites, articles and organizations that the Heartland Institute doesn’t like:

For a think tank, Heartland Institute isn’t very smart.
