Russia made three attempts to contact the Trump campaign team to offer emails in exchange for favors. They didn’t try to hide behind Guccifer 2.0 at that time, so a lot of people on the Trump campaign were aware that Russia was trying to contact them.
When questioned by Congress, most of the Trump campaign members totally forgot all about their meetings with Russians.
