World Wide Panic On The Internet During #TwitterDown

Twitter was down this morning in various areas around the world giving rise to a lot of panic for those who rely on the social media site for news and conversation. Since Twitter hasn’t been forthcoming on what caused the outage other than “technical difficulties”, there’s been a lot of speculation as to what happened. Russian and Syrian hackers are at the top of the list but those are rumors from the conspiracy fringe. There’s a bad website app spreading itself on Twitter via DMs. You receive a direct message from one of your followers saying: My Friends:) this site Show 🙂 WHO visited your profile 🙂 Great Site 😀 with a link to a website called who-visited Clicking on the link brings you to a nice looking website, except it’s using pictures stolen from the online image library 123RF . PinkMeth was a Revenge Porn site, a website allowing people to post nude pictures and contact information of their exes out of spite or a need for revenge. The operator of PinkMeth called himself Olaudah Equiano but unlike his victims, his real name isn’t known. To avoid having PinkMeth suspended for porn or DMCA violations, the site was moved to the DarkWeb where its servers could remain hidden. @VileTweets and @oxyconservative were the Twitter accounts that collected nasty tweets made by Conservatives and then posted them on the viletweet.com website. Zapem, SwiftRead and Greg Howard decided to create a scandal by claiming Neal Rauhauser and a group of trolls called the BeanDogs (formerly Super Troll Crew) were working together to make Conservatives look bad by forcing them to make vile tweets.These are the earliest tweets to be found on the viletweets account.
